VOTE!
With Alabama's next election being three days from today the fate of many hard fought campaigns for your vote will soon be ending and some candidates will remain standing while others will fade into history. I think most of our M@D family knows that your Market Manager stepped into the inside of this process by default a few years back and has been helping a campaign this year. As I write this my spouse is out there meeting and engaging the public to the end of hopefully doing some good for our state.
That being said, I've come to realize there are a lot of reasons people vote or don't vote. Many who don't vote have come to feel that it doesn't do any good. To that I would say change, especially the right change, takes time. Our current president seems to be the only one who can implement major changes in a short time.
For those who don't vote, do you realize that your vote counts equal to the richest or smartest person you know? Also, if you don't vote, you should not complain about the government because you didn't do anything to help make it better.
After something that came up a couple of months ago I find myself fascinated by the reasons people vote for one candidate over another. My husband came home telling about a candidate for a federal office from my hometown. I'd never heard of the guy so I spent the evening talking to folks from home, a couple of relatives and a childhood friend. I had quite the unpleasant earful before the evening was over.
Interestingly enough, one of my relatives told me he planned to vote for the guy simply because he wanted to support someone from our hometown. I'm finding that a lot of people think that way. They assume that someone they know, maybe went to school with, or have some connection to will do ok just because of proximity or common culture. They don't take time to ask questions or check credentials or possible voting history.
Others vote on values. Right to life and right to carry are critical factors to many people. Others look for a candidate more favorable to gambling. Parents with school age children are naturally concerned about education. Some voters just want to survive next month's bills. All of these are reasons to research your candidates.
Three days is not enough for anyone to search out and get info directly from very many candidates, and at this late date getting hammered with relentless commercials isn't the best research either. What IS a good idea is to hear the candidates out. Rather than a Saturday night movie, why not grab your popcorn, listen to them, and make up your own mind.

Dean Odle has been removed from running and John Wall had not joined the campaign yet in this January 2026 Lieutenant Govorner forum.
