MISC MARKET NOTES

Grower Updates

Grier Acres: Jeannie and Harry have been busy with late harvest.  For several years we have had requests for Moon and Stars watermelons.  So the Holidays are over but its the south.  Get some sweet yellow meat watermelon in the region where there are 4 seasons in a day, lol.  Seriously we can leave them for early pickup and work with Ros on a charge.  I haven’t discussed price with the bean counter Harry but considering the size and price of smaller watermelons I see now at grocery stores (5 to 6 bucks for a small one), I think 10.00 is a fair price.  They are very big and without any chemicals/pesticides.   If you have livestock your chickens and other animals will devour the rind if you don’t pickle or make further use of the remnants.

Chicken owners, do you have eggs?  Ours have been on strike for at least 2 months.  We got a few from some new layers but they fell off after 6 or so eggs.

We are still offering goat meat and try to offer recipes with our farm newsletter.  If you would like to be included, let us know and we can put you on our email list.  We also have love in the area and our buck is in his element.

Harry has grown a variety of peppers in our new area.  They did really well.  I figure with fall weather we will continue to get a good crop hopefully.  Our eggplant also did well.  We are gearing up for eggplant parmesan and some for freezer prep in winter.

Păsăre Mică We’ve got a few updates from the Păsăre Mică family!

First, we’ve officially added a new Junior Baker to the team. Jackson, son of Jack, has been unofficially employed and is already learning the family business. Unfortunately, pesky child labor laws mean his responsibilities are currently limited to supervising, looking adorable, and occasionally making production more complicated than necessary.

We’re also officially back in full swing! All of our sourdough flavors are available again, along with our cookies, house-made spices, croutons, bread crumbs, and the rest of the Păsăre Mică lineup. And finally, we owe you guys a huge thank you. Because of customers like you who have found us through The Market at Dothan, Păsăre Mică currently has a 5-star rating with 100% positive reviews on Facebook. For a little family bakery that started just over a year ago, that means a lot to us. If you’ve brought one of our loaves home and loved it, we’d love for you to share your experience and leave us a Facebook review. Every review helps another local family find us and gives our newest Junior Baker a little more job security. Thank you for continuing to support our family and Păsăre Mică! — Jack, Birdy, and Young Jackson, or new supervisor
