Pumpkin Contest Announcement

When I was a kid there were two things you did with Pumpkins: 1) You carved them for Halloween. 2) You made Thanksgiving and Christmas pies with them.

When I went to college I learned that people DECORATE for fall with them. This was a thrilling disovery and there was no shortage of outdoor fall décor in northern Indiana. By the time I moved back south the trend had traveled and was becoming popular.

Pumpkins are timeless and remain THE hot fall decorating item. Every year new uses for real, man-made and crafted pumpkins hit the public domain. New foods too!

So we want to have some fun with it this week. We’re asking that you share YOUR pumpkin crafts with us! Send photos by email or post them on our Facebook page this week. Cutoff time is Wednesday at 9 pm. Our vendors will vote on their favorite and the winner can pick up their prize at the Market on Friday, October 28.

This idea brought to you by Jennifer’s daughter who at fourteen years and nine months is now too old to carve pumpkins but still wanted to create something cute. She is using a real homegrown Sandspur Farms pumpkin.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome back SANDY VALLEY! We are pleased as punch to have Scotty and his beautiful vegetables back at the Market!

A hearty THANK YOU to everyone who donated to the Haiti Relief Project. It was a blessing to see the outpouring of generosity from our Market customers. Together we raised over $100 within an hour of Market opening and were able to send a total of $312 to the farmers in Petit Tros de Nippes. Several of you got to meet Christine Lamere who is the contact person on this project. She reports that our donation is just about right to fund a much needed tree nursery.

Please do not forget Haiti as we approach the holiday season. We plan to have a seed drive in the spring and are keeping the donation listings on the Market for anyone who may have missed last week’s drive and wants to help. If this is all new to you please visit here for more information.

Viki Richter will be managing the market this Friday, October 28 as Ros is called to family duty out of town.

Be sure mark December 1 on your calendar. That is the day for Christmas Open House and our Market vendors will be here in person with fresh seasonal produce, samples of products and a wonderful assortment of local, handmade food and gift items to get your Christmas season off to a good start.
