Basicilo Genovese is the famous Italian basil that has a buttery crunch, mousselike smoothness, and lush, velvety sheen. For authentic Italian pesto we select only the smaller, younger leaves, because they are the sweetest. If you ever discover someone who thinks they don't like pesto, try making them pesto with these leaves! I, however, am convinced that such a person does not exist. Leaves may come on the stem or individually; we recommend storing in fridge and making pesto within a couple of days, or as soon as possible. Once crushed into basil pesto the shelf live should be longer, about one week. Fresh, glossy basil leaves on the stem, of the sweet basil variety, grown using only organic gardening methods. Ideal for seasoning, topping, salad, and any variety of dishes. Flowers not included. One 18g bundle can come to about one cup of whole basil leaf, or about 1/2 cup, chopped. Leaves keep well (sometimes for weeks!) if left on stem in a jar of water on the windowsill. Alternative storage tricks include keeping individual leaves, tips up, in a shallow dish of water, or keeping leaves on stem in a loose plastic bag in fridge, with damp towel wrapped around base of stem.
